DETAILS
This meeting provides a unique platform for the international exchange of knowledge, experience and innovation in a highly specialized and truly interdisciplinary field.
For this meeting we aimed to focus on overarching topics in the fascinating spectrum of paediatric transplantation.
The programme has been a joint effort of the multidisciplinary team in Hannover together with input across the ERN.
Collegial exchange, networking across borders and open and lively interaction will foster growing knowledge and expertise across Europe, ultimately, to further improve the care of children and adolescents following transplantation.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Healthcare professionals and members of multidisciplinary teams integrated into the network (at all levels of care and geographic areas) providing health and social services, as well as potential partners and affiliated members of the network.
Anyone who is interested in continuing their formation regarding transplantation, whether they are healthcare professionals or collaborators of a patients’ association (patients, families, social workers, psychologists,…).
The workshop is open to all health professionals and members of patients’ associations, whether they belong to ERN TransplantChild or not.
EXPECTED EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES
After attending the event, participants will gain a comprehensive overview of current challenges, clinical management strategies, and emerging innovations in paediatric solid organ transplantation.
Key learning outcomes include:
1. Understanding the unique aspects of paediatric transplantation:
Participants will explore why paediatric transplantation can be considered a rare disease field, including challenges in access to care, research, and long-term patient management.
2. Managing complications after transplantation:
Attendees will learn about major post-transplant complications, such as:
Cardiovascular complications, Acute and chronic renal dysfunction, Haematological problems, PTLD (post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder), Endothelial injury and TA-TMA
3. Improving long-term outcomes in children:
The program addresses long-term health issues after transplantation, including:
Vaccination strategies, Food allergies, Obesity and MASLD, Transition of adolescents and young adults (AYA) to adult care
4. Advances in transplant medicine and technology:
Participants will gain insights into novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, such as:
New immunosuppressive strategies, Cellular therapies, Cell-free DNA as a biomarker for graft monitoring, Ex vivo organ perfusion technologies
5. Complex and combined transplant indications:
The event also discusses emerging indications and complex cases, including:
Lung transplantation in children, Combined organ transplantation (e.g., heart–liver transplantation), Transplant strategies for metabolic diseases such as PH1 and MMA.
6. Care of critically ill paediatric transplant patients:
Sessions will address advanced life-support strategies, including ECMO in children after solid organ transplantation.
Overall, participants will leave with updated clinical knowledge, insights into emerging research, and practical strategies to improve care and long-term outcomes for paediatric transplant recipients.
