The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all the European countries and their healthcare systems. However, countries have elaborated different protocols to fight against this virus and to remain available for urgent patients. In the case of paediatric transplantation, this situation has caused a decrease in the activity, and the subsequent need to adapt new safety procedures.
The participation of all the TransplantChild members and programs in the survey launched last month was massive, and we wanted to take one step forward on knowing how COVID 19 has affected the hospital activity and the patients. To do so, we have carried out a series of interviews with some of our health professionals. The aim of these interviews is that the experts give a general overview on how they have managed the pandemic in their hospitals and countries, which are the main issues they had (or will have) to tackle, and their most personal view of the pandemic and its consequences in the healthcare system.
