Management of BK virus in Kidney Transplantation (Clinical Decision Support Tool)
Recurrent disease after pediatric Kidney transplantation (Clinical Decision Support Tool)
This webinar will be on June 8, 2027 (16:00 CET)
.·Management of BK virus in Kidney Transplantation (Clinical Decision Support Tool):
Infections remain one of the most common complication in KT. Most infections in the first month after transplant are typically health care–associated, whereas later infection often are community-acquire. Opportunistic infections such as cytomegalovirus infection (CMV), Epstain-Barr virus iinfection (EBV) and BK virus infection (BKV) most frequently occur in the first 12 months after transplantation and in paralell with high levels of immunosuppression.
In the planned webinar, diagnostic and treatment recommendations from the recent consensus guidelines developed by The Transplantation Society International BK Polyomavirus Consensus Group will be summarized, discussed and with a special focus on pediatric kidney transplantation (Transplantation 2024;108: 1834–1866)
·Recurrent disease after paediatric kidney transplantation (Clinical Decision Support Tool):
Kidney transplantation (KT) is the best replacement therapy (KRT) for children with kidney failure. In pediatric kidney transplantation, up to almost 10% of graft losses are caused by recurrent disease. Recurrence of the original kidney disease thereby is the 5th most common cause of graft loss after chronic rejection, acute rejection, vascular thrombosis and patient death (dead with functioning graft). Disease recurrence can be categorized as recurrent glomerular or metabolic disease. Some systemic diseases that affect the kidneys, such as diabetes mellitus, also increase the risk of graft loss.
In the planned webinar, diagnostic and treatment recommendations from recent consensus guidelines developed by an international working group will be presented and discussed (Kidney International, Volume 105, Issue 3, 2024, Pages 450-463).

Learning outcomes:
·Management of BK virus in Kidney Transplantation (Clinical Decision Support Tool): after attending this webinar, participants will have an increased understanding of the management of patients with BK-virus infection after kidney transplantation and with special reference to pediatric kidney transplantation. Participants will receive up-to-date information based on international consensus guidelines that can be used in clinical practice regarding diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of patients with BK-virus infection after kidney transplantation.
·Recurrent disease after pediatric Kidney transplantation (Clinical Decision Support Tool): after attending this webinar, participants will have an improved understanding of the risks for recurrent disease after pediatric kidney transplantation with special focus on focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Participants will receive up-to-date information based on international consensus guidelines that can be used in clinical practice regarding diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of recurrent FSGS.
